Waltham Forest Labour Council are trying to increase the rent on Mornington Hall from £24,500 per year to a staggering £85,000 per year! A 254% rent rise! And they are insisting on backdating this rent payment to June 2024! This is unaffordable and could force Mornington Hall to close.
The hall is a much loved part of the Chingford community and has been for the last 100years. If the Council insist on these rent increases, it will undoubtedly force the closure of CADOS (Chingford Amateur Dramatic and Operatic Society) and leave numerous community groups without a place to hold their meetings. The hall provides a vital base for baby and toddler groups, sport and fitness classes, regular community events and much more.
