On Thursday 24 October, Waltham Forest Conservatives secured the backing of all Waltham Forest Councillors to look into extending to 30 minutes the current free parking regime across the Borough.
Speaking in favour of the motion, Conservative Group Leader, Matt Davis said, "Our long-standing policy to have free, short-stay parking was adopted, in part, by the Labour administration in 2012 with 15 minutes free parking allowed. It has been a success, but people still tell us they are wary of staying longer and doing more shopping or perhaps having a coffee with friends and this is hurting our High Streets."
"Extending free parking to 30 minutes will be a real boost for our town centres, especially those in the north of the Borough, less well-served by public transport."
