Since the announcement that the Post Office were having to close the South Woodford branch, your Conservative Cllrs Sue Nolan and Michael Duffel along with Iain Duncan Smith MP have been campaigning with residents and union to keep the post office open or at least maintain a service on George Lane.
We are pleased to announce that after a public Facebook meeting last Monday, when Iain questioned and pressed the Post Office representative - the Postmaster Effectiveness Director gave us a commitment that when they left the premises in April, they would rent temporary premises to provide a presence on George Lane.
In the meantime, they will look for a permanent partner to run a Post Office under franchise in one of the shops on George Lane. Cllr Sue Nolan said "This is great news. Our hard work in conjunction with residents means there will continue to be a presence here that will help our elderly and frail residents... access these vital services. Cllr Michael Duffel added "This will mean we will still have this vital service that supports our High Street businesses and encourage footfall to our hard pressed local businesses."
